Sisters in Islam welcomes the announcement by the Deputy Prime Minister that all mothers will now be allowed to sign any government form that requires the signature of the father or guardian on matters related to children.

This much awaited announcement recognises the principle that women have equal responsibilities and rights with men to make decisions in the best interest of the child.

This is major step forward in the struggle of the women’s movement in Malaysia to end all policies and laws that discriminate against women.
