{"id":6778,"date":"2016-11-22T20:08:37","date_gmt":"2016-11-22T12:08:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sistersinislam.org\/?p=6778"},"modified":"2019-10-05T20:14:58","modified_gmt":"2019-10-05T12:14:58","slug":"protest-against-amendments-to-the-syariah-court-criminal-jurisdiction-act-1965","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sistersinislam.org\/protest-against-amendments-to-the-syariah-court-criminal-jurisdiction-act-1965\/","title":{"rendered":"PROTEST AGAINST AMENDMENTS TO THE SYARIAH COURT (CRIMINAL JURISDICTION) ACT 1965"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>MEMORANDUM<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>PROTEST AGAINST AMENDMENTS TO THE SYARIAH COURT (CRIMINAL JURISDICTION) ACT 1965<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Submitted by the Joint Action Group for Gender Equality (JAG) and G25<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>22 November 2016<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">This memorandum by the Joint Action Group for Gender Equality or JAG and G25 is handed over to members of Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara to request a withdrawal of the tabling of the amendments to the Syariah Court (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 hereafter referred to as Act 355<span class=\"s1\">1<\/span>, which is scheduled to be tabled during the 3<span class=\"s1\">rd <\/span>Meeting of the 4<span class=\"s1\">th <\/span>Session of the Thirteenth Parliament (2016). We are concerned that the passing of this Bill will lead to injustices in the administration of Islamic laws in Malaysia and greater discrimination against Muslim women.
